Puntland's Incumbent President Announced He Is Running for Re-election

Puntland's incumbent president: Abdiwali Mohamed Ali Gaas
Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas, the incumbent President of Puntland state of Somalia, announced within this month, that he would run again for Presidential election.

Abdiweli made his announcement in a ceremony held in Garowe ,where more dignitaries including traditional leaders and his government officials also attended.
In the ceremony, he delivered a long speech he focused on his performances during the five-year office. More than 20 candidates including ex-officials and neophytes are opposing the incumbent president. Puntland presidential election will take place on January 8, 2019, as planned. 

He remarked, that during his 5 years term made a tremendous achievements on areas include, infrastructures, and sustaining peace and stability, and nurturing Somalia's Federalism model. While his opponents, include local Puntland argue that he failed his promises in delivering One-man-one-vote elections, securing the borders, and confronting with Islamist groups, like ISIS & al-shabab, etc.     
The vetting committee for parliament is now reviewing the list of the new lawmakers selected by clans. Puntland region lies at North-eastern part in Somalia, established as a autonomous region in 1998. 
It will face a big event on January 8, 2019, where more than 20 presidential candidates showed up so far, as a traditionally selected 66 MPs will elect one of them who will the region's 5th president.
